This is a video to honor those who died when the government cleared the Red Shirt protesters from the streets, specifically Ratchaprasong Intersection, on May 19, 2010. Beware that this video shows many dead and mutiliated bodies. The Red Shirts were protesting the government of Abhisit Vejajiva  According to Wikipedia: "The UDD [Red Shirts] called for Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to dissolve parliament and hold elections earlier than the end of term elections scheduled in 2012." More than 80 civilians and 6 soldiers were killed, and more than 2,100 injured during the protests, especially on May 19. The Thai Alliance for Human Rights believes that Thailand should join the International Criminal Court to hold its future governments accountable for any crimes against humanity. This will help prevent future massacres.

Note: This song responds to the events of December 2013 to January 2014 in Thailand. The People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) or People's Committee for Absolute Democracy with the King as Head of State (PCAD) under Suthep Thaugsuban, was protesting in the streets to remove Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. Suthep' group marched to overthrow the government and proceed with national reform through a non-elected royalist council, in order to "eradicate" the "Thaksin regime" (Yingluck is Taksin's sister). Yingluck dissolved Parliament and called for new elections, which the PDRC refused to participate in. This song is on the side saying "Enough already! Stop the ralleys that create the conditions for violence." In May 2014, General Prayut staged a coup saying he wanted to prevent violence and "return happiness to the people." The PDRC applauded the coup and disbanded.

Khon Kaen Univeristy Student Pai Daodin, (real name Jatupat Boompattararaksa), is the first lese majesty victim under the reign of the new Thai King. His "crime" was to "share” on Facebook an ordinary BBC news article: “Profile: Thailand’s New King Vajiralongkorn” (Pai shared the Thai version of this article). Nearly 3,000 other Thais also shared the article. For pushing "share," he has been charged with lese majesty (insulting royalty) and faces 3 to 15 years in jail. Of course the reason he was singled out for punishment is that he has been a nonviolent human rights and pro-democracy activist his whole short life. In the video, you can see him recommending "Vote No" on the junta's draft constitution. Publicly recommending "Vote No" was also illegal under the crazy junta rules (CLICK HERE FOR A SONG ABOUT THIS EPISODE), and Pai spend two weeks in jail for this during which he went on a hunger strike and got very sick. His mother and father are both nonviolent human rights activists, who have lead protests on environmental and labor issues in their region. His friends and fellow human rights, pro-democracy activists are doing everything they can to get the word out. Please support Pai Daodin, Thailand's Rosa Parks.

"Song of the Commoner" ENGLISH VERSION for Pai Daodin

Note: Here is an English Version of "Song of the Commoner" that I made for Pai Daodin (real name: Jatuphat Boonphatthararaksa), a young man (25) just for SHARING A BBC NEWS ARTICLE about the new king of Thailand, King Vajiralongkorn. He faces a possible sentence of 3 to 15 years for lese majesty (insulting royalty) for sharing the Thai version of THIS BBC NEWS ARTICLE on facebook. Many international human rights organizations support Pai Daodin in this case, and are protesting to the Thai government. The list of organizations calling for the release of Pai Daodin include: Human Rights Watch, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, the Thai Alliance for Human Rights, Asian Human Rights Commission, Scholars at Risk Network, and Thai Lawyers for Human Rights. The Thai version of this song is being used in Thai protests for Pai Daodin. Please spread the word.

Note: Happy New Year from the pro-democracy group Resistant Citizen, who may have lost many battles in 2016 but not their sense of humor. Here we see Thailand compared to North Korea. Their New Year's message released with video says, in part, "We will pass through the Dark Ages together." 

   The "Single Gateway" is a National Council for Peace and Order (junta) plan to have all the Internet in Thailand come through a "Single Gateway" supposedly for efficiency, but if it happens it will obviously make it easier for the government to censor the internet, which has to be the true motivation since no other justification makes sense. The "Single Gateway" has been compared to "The Great Firewall of China."

บ้านเมืองเรารุ่งเรืองเพราะอยู่แบบเก่า
Our homeland flourishes because it remains in the old style
พวกเราล้วนดมกาวสุขใจ
All of us sniff glue happily
เพราะฉะนั้นชวนกันฮาเฮ
And because of that, we persuade one another to express our joy

The Single Gateway policy oppresses the Thai people

ปีศาจ Beesaat (Demon)

The band's name is Lannanian

Note: This song is very powerful as it points out a huge problem facilitating the continued oppression and dictatorship in Thailand: basically that many have been conditioned  to think they should bow down and submit to powerful people and nobility, especially the King. Thailand needs a Thomas Paine (one of the American Founding Fathers, who wrote "Common Sense" a popular book attacking the so called "divine right" of kings.) In fact, many exiled Thai YouTube broadcasters in the Thai pro-democracy movement are carrying out the revolutionary project of providing uncensored information and teaching the norms of democracy, from locations around the world. I was surprised to learn that many of my PeeNong (brothers and sisters) in this movement sleep all day and get up in the middle of the night to broadcast live to Thailand. This song is always used at the beginning of broadcasts by Dr. Piangdin Rakthai (of San Francisco.)
